How Chiropractic Care Can Help With These Causes of Stiff Joints

rosedalewellness • August 4, 2022

Chiropractic care can help treat many issues, including pain caused by stiff joints. It is important to understand what is causing your discomfort to get to the root cause of your pain. With regular chiropractic appointments and a healthy lifestyle, you can take back your life and stop living with joint stiffness.

Causes of Stiff Joints

There are multiple causes of stiff joints, so it is helpful to determine what is causing your pain. The top causes of stiff joints include:

Aging

It’s no secret that your body changes over time, and certain things that were once simple tasks become difficult. As your body ages, your joint fluid and the thickness of your cartilage are diminished. This change makes regular movements stiff and sometimes painful.

Along with typical signs and symptoms of aging, some individuals experience pain that results in the need for arthritis care. In many cases, chiropractic treatments can help arthritis symptoms and ease the discomfort in your hands, knees, ankles, and more.

Changes in Weather

While there are many misconceptions about the topic, changes in the weather can, indeed, affect joint pain. During cold weather, joints are less flexible and become stiff because the fluid surrounding the joints thickens. Seeking the services of a trained and experienced chiropractor during cold months can help loosen your joints and reduce pain while you continue your daily routine.

Arthritis

Most people immediately associate chiropractic offices with back pain. While this is certainly an area that can be addressed, chiropractors can help with much more. Another area of expertise they specialize in is arthritis care.

Arthritis is a painful condition that affects men and women at any age, typically from the overuse of a joint or area on the body. Locating the source of the pain and maintaining regular chiropractor appointments can help with stiffness and decrease pain, allowing you to live your life to the fullest.

Poor Posture

Poor posture is one of the leading causes of stiff back and neck muscles. Whether you’re on your feet or sitting at a desk all day, your posture can impact your joint stiffness. While on your feet, keep your head up and back straight while engaging your core to maintain a healthy standing posture.

When sitting down, keep your shoulders back and posture straight, and take breaks throughout the day to stand and stretch. If you have consistent pain associated with poor posture, visit your chiropractor throughout the year to maintain alignment.

Bad Sleep

Poor sleeping positions can cause serious pain around your neck or back. Use pillows that work best for your size and neck, and replace them every few years to avoid joint stiffness. While you can’t always control having a good night’s sleep, keeping the appropriate size and shape of pillows can prevent pain from a bad night.

How To Alleviate Stiffness

If you need additional arthritis care or pain relief between your regularly scheduled appointments, consider using at-home methods to ease the pain. Regular stretching and gentle exercises are great ways to alleviate stiffness. If the pain is severe, consider taking over-the-counter medicine at a controlled rate to temporarily ease the pain.

We Can Provide Relief

You don’t need to suffer from stiff joints and the discomfort that comes along with it. Treatment options are available to help you get back to living a full life.
