These 5 Tips Will Help You Stick to Your Physio Rehab Plan

rosedalewellness • September 7, 2022

Are you struggling to do the things you love without pain and discomfort? If you’re finding it difficult to move like you used to, then it may be time to see a physiotherapist.

Once your condition is diagnosed, your physiotherapist will provide you with a structured rehab plan to get you back in the game. However, the most important part of this plan will be consistency on your part. So, here are five tips to help you stick to your physio rehab plan.

The Benefits of a Rehab Plan

Physio rehab plans utilize progressive exercises and treatments to minimize pain while strengthening muscles and connective tissue. These plans will equip you with the tools to recover safely under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Other benefits include less discomfort, increased strength, fewer muscular imbalances, and a reduced risk of future injuries.

Tip 1: Believe in the Plan and Understand It Fully

To get the most out of your physio plan, you must fully understand what physiotherapy treatment can do for you. Understanding why each component of the physiotherapy plan is in place will help you realize the best possible results. Also, learning more about how the body works and what you should and shouldn’t do during exercise will help keep you safe throughout the process.

If you are confused by anything outlined in your plan, ask your physiotherapist plenty of questions so you can do everything as intended. By fully understanding your plan, you set yourself up for a more efficient path to success.

Tip 2: Schedule Your Day to Include the Exercise

This is crucial: you must carve out time in your day to complete your plan’s exercises. No matter how busy your week, there will always be time to complete your exercises, stretches, and therapeutic treatments. That’s because the plan’s daily sessions will likely only take 30-45 minutes of your time.

Physiotherapists know that their patients lead busy lives which is why they carefully curate these treatments to fit into a hectic work week. Make sure to choose a time that you’ll be able to stick to, such as first thing in the morning, during your lunch hour, or just before dinner.

Tip 3: Set Attainable Goals

Don’t want to miss out on your goals? Then don’t set unrealistic ones! By setting small, frequent milestones, you have a better chance of reaching them, and keeping that motivation momentum flowing. An attainable goal for you may just be completing each plan’s exercise for the day.

Tip 4: Be Patient

Rehabilitating an injury is rarely straightforward. You may plateau or even feel like you’re in more pain as you are recovering. That’s why it’s important to set realistic expectations for your recovery timeline. To experience the full benefits of physiotherapy, you must allow your body the time it needs to heal, which will vary from person to person and injury to injury.

Tip 5: Tell Your Friends and Family for Extra Motivation

Your closest supporters may be your best source of motivation. Get your friends and family to cheer you on and you have a better chance of sticking to your rehab plan. Plus, coworkers and family members that live at home with you can help remind you to do your exercises when you get busy.
