This program was developed for expectant as well as postpartum women. The prenatal component of the program involves strengthening muscles that support the spine and pelvis, which will relieve or prevent typical pregnancy back and pelvic aches. Breathing and stretching exercises are incorporated for areas that need to be limber during childbirth. Postnatal care focuses on strengthening the pelvic floor and abdominals to aid in restoring these areas after the physical stress of child bearing and birth. Hana, our head physiotherapist is trained and registered to perform internal manual pelvic floor examination and treatment, which is often a part of pre and postpartum care depending on each woman and her particular issues.
The weight loss program is designed to address 3 key items:
1) Diet modification
3) Vitamins and supplements
Dietary advice will be monitored by a Medical Physician. Exercise will be monitored by our Chiropractor and/or Physiotherapist. And implementing vitamins and supplementation will be monitored by our Naturopaths. By addressing these 3 key components, the end goal is for a more efficient approach to weight loss.
GLA:D® is an 8-week exercise and education program developed by researchers in Denmark for individuals with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis (OA). It consists of 12 neuromuscular exercise sessions (twice a week for 6 weeks) and 2-3 education sessions delivered by certified therapists. Data is also collected to monitor quality and improvement.
Research from the GLA:D® program in Denmark has shown a reduction in progression of OA symptoms by 32%. Other outcomes include a reduction in pain intensity, reduced use of pain killers, and fewer individuals on sick leave. Participants also reported increased levels of physical activity 12 months after starting the program.
This program is unique in that exercises and education provided can be applied to everyday activities. By strengthening and correcting daily movement patterns, participants will train their bodies to move properly, prevent symptom progression, and reduce pain.
Cupping is a treatment used to relieve chronic and acute musculoskeletal conditions. It is performed by a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioner using silicone suction cups. This ancient treatment encourages blood flow, releases fascial adhesions and loosens tight connective and soft tissue. Releasing and loosening these areas are important for attaining full range of movement and decreasing the chances of dysfunctional muscle patterns.
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used in the treatment of varicose veins. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution or ‘sclerosant’ directly into the vein. This solution ‘scleroses’ the vein – that is, irritates the inner vein walls causing them to thicken and seal off the vein. Gradually the body converts the sclerosed vein into scar tissue which cannot be seen or felt. The initial consultation for varicose vein sclerotherapy is covered by OHIP. On this visit the type of treatments will be determined.
